Can YOGA help my voice overs and Acting?

Rolls Royce a favourite client

Yoga is only for flexible people isn't it?!

As an #experienced Yoga #Teacher (yes, a true actor! 😝) I regularily use #techniques I have learned from #Yoga to help me cool off in hot situations.

Before a #theatre show, while standing side stage I would use an affirmation to repeat and clear my head of all the crazies before walking on. Early in my #career I heard everyone saying never to go over lines just before stepping on #stage. However I always repeated my lines and was always super nervous! Once I started clearing my #mind before walking out everything became much easier. The lines were learned and in my head anyway. I just needed to walk out as the #character and be sure of myself.

Even better with #voiceovers as we have the lines right in front of us! But we still need to calm our nerves and take the pressure off of sounding “perfect” or correct at the right pace.

An affirmation can help. Repeat it while slowly #breathing in & out at least three times. Try repeating it at relaxing happy times while #exercising, doing yoga, #cooking#painting or doing something else you love. The mind will take you back to that happy place and help you #relax before your last breath in and positive start to your new #recording

– I am confident and positive.

– My thoughts become reality.

– I am proud of myself.

– I am becoming more confident everyday.

When about to begin your #voiceover take a few deep breaths. Say your #affirmation in your mind three times. Take one more deep breath with lips slightly parted (to help your #clicks!) and begin on a #positive#grounded & #happy footing.

Let me know if these help you before your next voice over or if you have any prerecording relaxation techniques yourself.

Now get back to your booth!
